For ten days each July, the lagoon town of Knysna gives itself over to the oyster — and to the long, slow pleasure of eating well outdoors on the Garden Route.
The festival is part food, part sport, part midwinter escape: oyster bars and tastings sit alongside the famous Forest Marathon, cycle tours, and a programme of outdoor events that draw people from across the country. It is the Garden Route at its most convivial, a four-hour drive east of Cape Town through some of the most scenic coastline in South Africa.
For guests who want to fold it into a wider Cape itinerary, we can plan the drive, the overnight stops, and the table bookings so the festival becomes a considered few days rather than a long round trip.
