Each August, the sky above Muizenberg fills with colour as kites from around the world take to one of Cape Town's most storied beaches.
A spectacle as much as an event, the kite festival is a long-running fundraiser that turns the False Bay shoreline into a moving canvas. It is best watched from the warmer, sea side of the mountain — a different Cape Town from the Atlantic seaboard, with the colourful bathing boxes of Muizenberg as a foreground.
We can pair it with lunch at the coast and a driver for the day, making an easy half-day out of it.
